Galaxy Learning will deliver the support your child needs to succeed in the ever more competitive 11+ exam.
After an initial first lesson a program can be drawn up to estimate the number of hours needed to prepare your child for the exam.
This will be done by the student and tutor so that the student understands what they will need to do between lessons to achieve their target. Sessions can be arranged on an hourly basis or in block programs.
The structure of the 11+ has changed over time but usually consists of three parts:
- Arithmetic – A mental arithmetic test;
- Writing – An essay question on a general subject;
- General Problem Solving – A test of general knowledge, assessing the ability to apply logic to simple problems.
Some exams have:
- Non-Verbal Tests
- Verbal Tests
As well as going through the 11+ syllabus with your child, the tutor will focus on exam technique, time management as well as providing sessions on interview technique if required so your child can confidently answer questions that are likely to come up. Tutors will bring their own materials to the lessons and be able to recommend materials for your child to practise with in between lessons. Students have gained academic scholarships into their chosen secondary school under our tutelage and guidance.
Our tutors have relevant teaching or tutoring experience. We ensure they are suitably qualified. Our tutors will have up to date knowledge of the curriculum and various exam boards. Our tutors are also required to hold a Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) Certificate or an Enhanced Disclosure Scotland which we carefully review along with 2 references that are provided for every tutor.
